Kindness Changes Everything

Sharon Barkan Educational Therapy

Happiness and well-being are integral parts of education and learning. Children of all ages deserve joyful learning that serves as a springboard to fulfilling their dreams, wishes, and potential.

I am proud of the individualized support and care I provide to my students and their families, and I look forward to working with your child and you.

Does your child struggle with the academic aspects of school?
Are they successful in reading but hate and avoid math? Or the other way around?
Are they really good at computing numbers but find word problems to be a huge challenge?
Do they say things like, “I hate school,” “I suck at math,” “I will never get it,” or “I try, I really try, but I still don’t get it”?
Are they creative spellers?
Is paying attention in class hard for them, especially when compared to their focus on projects of their own?
Do you need support in asking the school to start the process of assessment and evaluation of learning differences?
Do you need help and support for the IEP process or a 504 plan?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, your child would probably benefit from educational therapy support.

What is Educational Therapy

A Professional Member of the Association of Educational Therapists

Educational therapy is a process that addresses one’s feelings about learning while providing remediation and academic support as needed. It promotes the development of metacognition, self-advocacy, self-understanding, and self-acceptance. Educational therapists provide content, skills, and knowledge in methodical, incremental, multisensory ways that are evidence-based and fit the challenges and strengths of each student. Educational therapists are trained to work with students of all ages with a variety of learning challenges such as dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, being Twice-Exceptional, anxiety, and more. Educational therapy is a highly individualized support, usually provided in a one-on-one setting. We go through extensive training and are required to be lifelong learners and embody this principle. We also make sure to stay up-to-date with current research and new evidence-based methodologies.
